Internship at the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia: Hands on Experience in Archaeology (2006)  

"I am very fortunate to have interned with PortAnta during the summer of 2006 at the National Museum of Archaeology in Lisbon.   The experience PortAnta offers is truly exceptional because of your level of involvement as their intern.  There's nothing like hands-on experience, and they've got it.  Not only do you learn a great deal about your project, you also truly feel that you are substantially contributing to the growing scientific scholarship of Portugal.  The work you do is real and definitely has impact.   Director Maia Langley is an absolute pleasure to work with as she is equally as thorough with the program goals as she is with her hospitality and care for the welfare of all participants.   An added bonus is the appreciation you have for Portugal and its beautiful culture and language.  Engaging locals in conversation, exploring Lisbon and Belem, listening to Portguese fado singers while passing restaurants, eating delicious pastries and even simple walks by Tejo River after a hard days work makes life so enriching.  This is an abroad experience you want, and PortAnta can give you that and more."

PortAnta - Torre de Palma Osteological Project and Independent Research (2007 and 2008)

“I attended this program two years ago and then returned to Portugal last year through PortAnta to do research for my MA thesis, and I have to say that this has been one of the best experiences of my life. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful, and unlike a lot of study abroad programs many of the staff members are Portuguese (with very, very good English), so you also get the opportunity to learn a lot about the country that you are staying in. In addition to this, the instruction was extremely good and of a very high scholarly level. This program, and the help that the program provided me with while I was doing my research, has allowed me to do so much more than I would ever have expected! I have learned a great deal, met some truly wonderful people, and I can honestly say that I feel extremely privileged to have been able to work with such a fantastic organization! I would highly recommend this program to anyone with an interest in archaeology (and Portugal)!”
